08/16/2017 06:46PM Thanks, guys. I thought it might be at the natural isthmus, but wasn't sure. It saves just shy of 4 miles vs. going around the point. If you are efficient at portaging, that's a good hour. Somewhat of a lesser concern: Being that it is a portage along the border route, I would assume that citizens of either country can travel freely? |

08/15/2017 09:59PM Fisher has a tendency to include portages here and there that never were. Of course it does say right on Fisher maps "not intended for navigational use". |

08/15/2017 09:34PM Interesting Muddyfeet. I just checked my 1952 Fisher maps and it's not shown. Those old maps show portages all over the place that are no longer there. Must be something recent. That may be worth the walk with an east wind. |

08/14/2017 07:03PM I have not taken the portage. I've paddled by it a few times on my way to Wind Bay and it is obvious coming from the west. Recently purchased a 2016 version the the Chrismar Map (most recent available) and the portage is indicated on the map. |

08/14/2017 06:36PM Supposedly there is a portage that cuts off Canadian point on Basswood. See this thread. Does anyone have this portage parked on a map at all? I have searched the vast internets without success and cannot find a marked trail or picture. Sounds like it would be easy to find coming from Merriam Bay, but I'll be coming from the west. |
