09/05/2017 09:10PM I have loved being able to introduce young men and women to the adventure of the outdoors, both in weekend trips and more high adventure trips. I love hearing about good encounters with Scout groups...and absolutely cringe when I hear bad ones....they should always embody respect for the wilderness! To date my long trips with them have been... - A week backpacking the Great Smokey Mountains along the north shore of Fontana Lake, the 35 mile Lakeshore trail over 5 days. - Two trips canoeing in Quetico, 6 days 70 miles in northeast Quetico; and 7 days 80 miles in northwest Quetico - A 10 day hike at Philmont Scout Ranch in norther New Mexico mountains, 85+ including summitting Mt. Baldy,12,445' - Looking forward to a week of sailing the keys and SCUBA diving every day next summer |

09/01/2017 10:03PM Thanks for the report - I enjoyed the pictures. I think it's a great idea to get the kids totally involved in all aspects of the trip. |

09/01/2017 09:40PM They are. my daughter has wanted to go back since her 2012 trip. I think it's true for outdoors people...once the north woods gets in your blood, it doesn't leave. I always find myself dreaming of when I can go back. Maybe once I retire I will be able to make annual trips for a while...just need a tripping partner! |
