Just go to Cherokee. Great lake for northern and lakers. You can daytrip to Frost. You could always go to Long Island Lake too or just use Cherokee as a pit stop on the way to a Frost basecamp. Personally I like the idea of coming in on Brule. It took us about 2 hours to get from Brule EP to North Temperance and Cherokee is only about 2 hours further depending on how quickly you portage. North and South Temperance are good lakes for bass and we caught walleye there too.

We will sometimes target a certain species; lakers, walleye, etc., but usually adapt to the area. Personally I can't get enough of top water smallmouth action. Love areas that are off the main routes and don't mind working to get to them.

What species of fish are you primarily wanting to target?

Our group has been going to the western BWCA for years now and are thinking about venturing into the eastern end and are looking for some advice on location. We generally spend 5-6 nights in an area, set up camp and day trip from there. We have no problem portaging long hours to get to a site with fishing as our main focus. Any advice on a particular lake or area would be appreciated, thanks.
