01/22/2018 01:58PM we always fished at the very east end of SAK , done many trips this route. we entered seagull , yes seagull itself is a large body of water and can get rough at times , north of 3-mile may give the most protection from the wind , but lakes with islands you can have the wind behind you one minute and in your face the next. but once seagull is behind you , you'll have the easiest 100 rd portage in the BW and after that all paddles and portages are fairly short that gives the body nice breaks between paddling and portage , double portaging about 8.5 hours this way , one year we came out in record time (lighter and cold) 6 hours 20 minutes. true story ;) |

01/22/2018 12:06PM Did this exact trip last June and caught fish on every body of water to and from SAK from Moose. Even if the portages are a little backed up there are fish to be caught while waiting. |

01/22/2018 08:16AM Definitely the best way to SAK. Do start early, but also expect some traffic at portages as this is a very popular route. And get your campsite before too late as they can fill up as well. All this depends on time of year. It is busy because it is big and has lots to offer. Do you plan on stopping by the ribbon rock at Dorothy's old homestead and see the other sites on the lake or just catch big fish? There are some reports of bear activity in the past so do your homework and keep a clean camp. |

If you are goin during "prime-time" get a very early start to avoid the rush and the Boy Scouts groups coming out of Northern Tier. Ok guys - just a lot of them at times. |

01/20/2018 02:18PM Any recommendations on the best route to SAK? Either through SAG or the Moose chain? We are open to approaching from Ely or the west side of the BW. So a tow from either Latourells or Seagull Outfitter. Objective is to reach SAK and begin fishing ASAP! Thanks |
