02/28/2018 09:50AM Just a little side note on the established "trails" in the BWCA. They are pretty rugged in places, not your typical hiking trail. You don't get anywhere fast. I've talked to some hikers who thought they could cover some pretty easy distance on the trails and had to cut trips short because there was no way they were covering the miles they had planned. Here is a video of some experienced hikers on the Sioux Hustler Trail and the Caribou Rock/BRT . |

02/27/2018 09:51PM Cowdoc has a good one. Another idea is on the opposite end of the park. Stay in Ely before and after the trip, Voyageur North is a good outfitter but many others too. An hour drive NW of town has you at Little Indian Sioux River - North. (EP 14). Go to shell, emerald, hustler and others from there. The Sioux-Hustler hiking trail is along or near all those lakes for day hikes and the like. One of few hiking trails within the BWCA along with BRT posted above and Kekekabic. |

02/25/2018 10:08PM I'll throw out a suggestion. Entry point 62...Clearwater. Do a route along the border and back on the "Pikes". The BRT (border route trail) runs along the route for some hiking. Maybe pop down to the west end of Pine and hike up to Johnson Falls. Stay at Clearwater Lodge at SW end of Clearwater Lake. Historic, beautiful place. Fall colors along that route should be outstanding. Check it out on this map |

02/25/2018 08:59PM Hi, I'm hoping to do a trip in the BWCA with my 3 kids (22 year old twin girls, 25 year old son) this fall. My kids are all endurance athletes, and competent paddlers. We would be looking to go for 6 to 7 days, a layover day or two at a nice spot would be fine. We're not all that concerned with fishing. Wildlife, scenery and solitude would be our primary goals. My kids are also avid hikers, so any hiking opportunities would be a bonus. We would appreciate any suggestions for routes or even just a general area, and any outfitters you might recommend. We'll be driving from Maine, so an outfitter with a bunkhouse or reasonable accommodations for before and after the trip would be great. Thanks, Roger |
