03/27/2018 02:36PM I would try the Kawishiwi EP #37 with Malberg as the destination. There is a longer portage in the middle of getting there. It is doable in a day, or stop at Polly and take two days. In either case you can the decide to basecamp on Malberg with many day trip options, or do a 2-4 day loop starting/ending at Malberg if you like to move most days. |

03/27/2018 06:57AM Little Indian Sioux is a nice trip, but I can't tell you anything about fishing. There are lots of other options depending on what you mean by "decent portages (not super long)" and how much you want to travel vs. fish and relax. I just tend to do whatever portages are between me and where I want to go. Would a 160-rod (1/2 mile) portage be the max, 80 rods, do hills matter? How many days, miles do you want to travel? On the Ely side, Mudro might also be a good option for you. |

03/26/2018 06:44PM Hard to beat an Little Indian Souix north entry point (#14). A great solo entry point with lots of great lakes and options. Plenty to explore/go/fish. |

03/26/2018 03:47PM Looking to plan a 5-7 day solo trip. I am looking for good fishing, decent portages (not super long) and need to stay on the U.S. side. I am shooting to go in August. Does anyone have a good suggestion for this type of trip? Thanks |
