Sorry, I read through your post again & realized you weren't asking for fishing advice!!
Can't help with campsites and I only have trolled for trout passing through the lakes. I have never camped on them.

Just throw out a slip bobber rig using a leach or crawler. I personally likes leaches better that time of the year as they don't get stolen quite as easy. Set the length at between 6 & 10 foot. The nice thing is you can dink around camp and fish at the same time. Very seldom will you come up with no fish as the bass are almost always hungry and I've caught walleye and pike with the rig also. I've caught them from shore on gradual slopes medium slopes, and on steep drops. The thing to remember is you won't catch fish if you don't have bait in the water.
I'm usually up there end of July, 1st of August.

We'll be there in mid-July. I know not the best fishing season, and we'll do our share of exploring and hard fishing on day trips. I'm thinking more of just campsites with a good place to sit and throw a line in, as I'm tripping with 2 younger kids that like to fish.

With luck, maybe a site or two that has enough room to throw a fly rod if possible, though I know those are hard to find.

I'd think the time of year would make a big difference on how good fishing is from shore on those lakes. I too have done well around the island, and hooked a good many lakers not far from shore, but those were May/early June trips. As it gets warmer, I'd think fishing from shore would get more challenging.

Kekekabic - I've had good success around the SW island campsite but, I've always been in a canoe. It's been awhile but, i think shore fishing would be a viable possibility. The western peninsula site may also offer what you're looking for.

Ogishkemuncie - the island site near the portage to Mueller has produced goid shore fishing for us over the years.

Jasper - the fire devastated this lake, and in my experience, most of the sites have fallen timbers along the shore lines (high snag probability) and/or have steep shorelines. One exception might be the site at the narrows of the lake? But, i think its quite shallow there???

Alpine - Don't have a lot of camping experience there but, there are so many sites that there has to be a few that would be produtive.

Can anybody recommend any campsites with decent areas/room to fish from shore on Kekekabic, Ogish, maybe even Jasper and Alpine?

I've looked at camp ratings on this site (and others), but most just take into account number of good tent pads, etc., without mentioning if you can fish from shore or not.

I'm not necessarily looking for the most productive places to fish, but places that have enough room to set up a chair or two, throw some lines in the water, and watch the clouds go by, or maybe even, with enough room, teach my son to throw a fly rod.

Thanks in advance!
