Looking at late ice out, I would do 37 and hit the Kawishiwi River hard from the NE side of Malberg all the way down to the portage to Alice. Moving water may be the ticket considering the temps. We did pretty good one Memorial weekend below the rapids that are just above the Alice portage.
Day trip to see the Fishdance pictos.
The bay on Polly where the Phoebe river flows in looked super fishy also. It's a long paddle up around the point into that east arm, but it looked like it would be worth it to me.
Keep track of ice out for the area on the Sawbill website. They started last friday.....15" of hard pack snow and 24" of ice.

Different kind of trip for me this year, instead of a big solo I'm taking a couple college buddies who are first timers and want to get into the fish.

Looking at Memorial Day weekend, 4 days total. We have limited options left (obviously), but Moose River north and Kawishiwi still have a few permits. From what I'm seeing, walleye can be found at either and lake trout out of 16. We'd have slightly more options out of 16 for day trips, because it'll be a base camp and day trip kind of trip.

Convince me one way or the other where I should go!
