Paddled thru Loon on a Sunday on our way to LLC a few years ago. Lots of boats heading to and from Beatty portage. Cool to see railroad portage, but won't go back now that we've checked that off the list. On our way back, we camped a night on Loon and saw a few boats fishing and at campsites. Not ideal, but bearable knowing they were allowed. However, next morning one boat decided wakeboarding at 7am was a good idea. I won't camp on Loon again if I can help it.

I saw one last year as I paddled towards Little Loon, but it was pretty far off. To answer your question, motors are allowed on the American side of loon, but not Little Loon.

I've seen the outfitter speed boats heading for the Beatty portage as well as houseboats moored at campsites on Loon on the US-side.

I've paddled through Loon several times and have always seen motor boats. You must have been lucky. I've never had any issues with them. They always give me plenty of room. Finding an open campsite however....

In 2014 I went in at EP14 north to Loon Lake. Looking to go again this year. I know there are motors allowed on Loon but I don't remember seeing any on the MN side of the lake. Seems they all stayed in Canada. Do they have to stay in Canada or did I just not see any on our side of the border???
