06/07/2018 05:31PM The more I look at the posted map images above the more I see how misleading they are. Go to Google Earth or Maps and I have always paddled into that puddle between the two rock crossings. Worst case you could pull into it. Nowhere near as proportionately long as the one next to the rapids. PS I went back to Google Earth and another web site with photos. Throw over the Gabbro side of the "puddle" and usually paddle teh BE side. The current Google Earth photo is at low water, as the rapids show. But with more water in BE, that second rock is easy to paddle around. |

06/07/2018 03:41PM In high water, the southern red line is far easier and shorter. lift your canoe and packs over a flat rock. the northern red line is not long at all, just technically more challenging to carry over the hump and around boulders (not rocks, boulders). |

06/06/2018 10:25PM Interesting, I was there in September of 2016. We had high water, like 12 hours of torrential rain the day before we entered. We landed closer to the northern line, and followed a trail to the BE side of the southern line. It wasn't easy, so most don't do it that way! I guess the high water made jumping back in where we landed not appear to be an option for us. I remember fishing the rapids a bit from shore before carrying the gear over to BE, but never thought launching was an option. I guess I need to go back and try again! Good fishing in that area! |

06/06/2018 09:24PM Yep, just paddle till you are almost in the Rapids, and it is right there on your right. It has a pretty easy landing if I remember right. Only about 20 steps and you are in bald eagle. This is if you are coming from grabbro towards BE . In your second pic, it is almost exactly where your northern most red line is |

06/06/2018 08:56PM We used the northernmost RED one on your map. I don’t even know if it is a rod. It’s just a throw your gear over the hump portage. |

06/06/2018 02:13PM I'v always used the southern most one on the MacKenzie map. Easy peazy. You can practically throw your packs across the portage. Lower water, you can float out of BE into Gabbro. If you go that way and decide not to, the portage across that spit of land is easy except for landing on BE side. Have done it, and Gabbro side is a nice place for a lunch. There is another website that has user photos at that south most throw over. Pretty clear how easy and short it is. |

06/06/2018 01:48PM I've read that there is a much shorter, easier portage from Gabbro into Bald Eagle. While it does seem more obvious on the satellite image than my Mc Kenzie map I was wondering if someone could steer me in the right direction? The map shows a long winter portage basically through a swampy area but no summer paddling portage. Is the summer portage/pullover just to the right (south side) of the falls or further south than that? I've drawn a couple of lines indicating where I thought it may be. Thanks for your help!
