Great picture Jeff. He must have been a small guy to fit in that shaft every day.

Thanks folks for the input. Savage, we have been to the mine, pretty cool. Lots of remnants of his work lying around. Airmorse, tried emailing you but no luck.

Wonder if shorefishing from camp has any potential there? We have two small 2 man tents and can set them up almost anywhere, not too worried about that. More about the feel and the view.

Be sure to find and explore the old gold mine. It is located at the portage between Kelly and Jack at the Jack side on the left. It is about 50 yards in the woods away from the portage.

Stayed there a few years back on our way out. Nice site. It did experience a blow down a few years ago and I imagine b4 that was an even better site. It is a small site but we did manage to find room for three tents.

You can email me for fishing information.

My wife and I did a loop through there a couple years ago. I remember before the trip thinking that might be a good site to stay at our last night but when we saw it we didn't think it was all that great. I don't remember our reason for not liking it but we kept going and grabbed the next site south (824) and loved it. I know that doesn't quite answer your question...

Site 824:

Well my oldest buddy and trip partner and I reconnected after a long time of no contact and we pulled together a last minute trip to the BWCA. We are thinking Baker to Kelly Lake and setting up for a few days for fishing, relaxation and photography. Going in July 6th.

I kind of have my sights set on the northernmost campsite on Kelly, seems like a cool spot secluded on a bay with good wildlife sighting possibilities and a stream coming into the lake on one side of the campsite and the Temperance River from South Temperance on the other side. Sounds like some cool exploration and photography possibilities bushwhacking up these waterways. Sounds like fishing can be good too at the mouths of these two streams.

i am a little concerned about the possibility that this campsite is totally shut off from the winds and could be very buggy. Reviews of the site range from low mediocre to very good but we seem to be able to make ourselves comfortable in almost any site.

If anyone has any info on the site itself, likelihood of being windless and buggy, and the fishing in that area, please feel free to lay it on me. If we Pass the mid lake site on the point and it is open we may just take that but I really like the idea of listening to the Temperance River every night as we go to sleep. Any info appreciated. Been through the area several times but never camped on Kelly Lake.
