I wonder about the Found lake to Basswood route. I have seen this on the map but that is all. I have been to Bayley bay in the winter via Moose-NewFound-Prairie Portage-Bailey Bay than i went onward.
I know Bailey bay is super deep and does hold trout, but I really never seen anyone winter or summer fish it for trout. That doesn't mean mu,ch for people are in a hurry to get across Bailey as you head into Quetico. I always wanted to try itit may be very good. A sleeper?
Some of the dog sledders would know.
It would be aprox. 8 miles the way I mentioned.

Its been a while since I have been over that trail, but you shouldn't have any issues. The only potential issue is on occasion with the ice around the manomin to rice bay portage.

Hi All, I'm thinking about doing a camping trip to Bayley Bay for lake trout this winter. I would enter the BWCA on Moose and cross into Basswood from Newfound. I see there is a "Winter Use Trail" from Found Lake to Manomin and then to Basswood. Has anyone taken this route? Any info on the status of the winter use trail, difficulty in traversing the trail pulling a toboggan, or any other advice? Thanks!
