Great EP for your family. Have you been in this area before? Are you base camping somewhere and then going down the Horse River or will you have loaded gear in your canoe? The Horse River should be fine - right away, there can be a few shallow spots that are tricky to navigate around as it can be rocky - just go slow and be careful - after that, you should be fine. It doesn't get narrow anywhere - it can just be shallow, but again, other than the first 1/2 mile from Horse Lake, the rest of it should be fine - and the three portages are very manageable as well.

Hello! Long time lurker first time poster here. My family and I are entering EP #23 soon and I'm wondering if anyone can shed light on the water levels round there right now. I understand lot of this depends on VERY recent rainfall but any observation would help put my mind at ease. I'm specifically curious about the horse river. We are renting this year since my daughter (this will be her 2nd trip) is getting big and the three of us nearly submerged our 16' old town last year! Well, not really. But this year we rented a longer canoe (20') and so I imagine its less navigable in tight river/creeks. And with low water levels: who knows. The BWCA has been a huge part of my life growing up and in earlier adulthood. My wife and I took a break (7 years) when the our daughter was born but am now trying to get back at it. Its great my daughter seems as excited as I. I hope to keep it that way. :)

Might see the Perseid Meteor Showers up there!
