08/21/2018 06:55PM I camped on Fat last summer. Gorgeous site up on a ledge. I caught a laker within 15 minutes when I started. I believe Fat is a “heritage lake”, meaning it is not stocked because it is one of only 35 Laker lakes in the state that reproduce naturally. The “heritage lakes” of Minnesota have the most genetically pure Lake trout...I read that on the DNR website. “”On the 35 known native lake trout lakes, called Heritage Lakes, the DNR does not stock lake trout so that the genetic purity of the unique existing strains remains untainted.”” Tony |

08/21/2018 11:19AM For Laker fishing....yes. Nothing real big but plenty of action....depending on the time of year. Pretty little lake. One of the brothers at CCO told me that if he could have a cabin on any lake in the BW, it would be on Fat. |

08/20/2018 10:08AM I just did this portage a week ago. The Portage is in that North East Pocket before Slim chokes and south of the campsite on the western shore. When I was there there was a downed tree right in front of it. The portage has a few spots that might make you question the route. Take your time, it's kind of a bear, especially with canoes. I suspect it is 200+ Rods. GL!

08/18/2018 08:04PM Drnatus has it correct or at least in the general area. I remember being on the south campsite looking over the water and it was to my left across the lake. There was a little cove there. It was about 4 years ago when I was there in late September and it was still easy to find because all of the grass was matted down where people pulled up and got out. You shouldn't have too much trouble. |

08/17/2018 11:01PM Can anyone point out where the portage is going from Slim to Fat, i know its south of the creek, but anything more specific?
