They take on a bit too much IMO. But I guess I did the same in my 30s like them.

I hear that! I'll check out the video. I need to get a Quetico fix before the season starts. Thanks for posting.

I'll have to check it out, TomT. Copia did a lot to get my anticipation levels up for this season. You were missed at Copia, btw!"

Thanks man. It was tough not going but sometimes we have to make tough decisions.

TomT: "I've been watching this very well done video of a two week trip by Jon and Erin from the Lost Lakes youtube channel. I've done 3/4 of their route as I'm sure many of you have done parts as well. I thought I'd share it here to get the anticipation of trips this year going.

This trip was from 2020 but Jon did a re-edit to trim it down a few weeks ago.

I made the same mistake coming the other way. Luckily I didn't take both loads. The lake didn't match up with the map which I had in my pack. I know of another guy who did the same thing. It's around Grey Lake and an unnamed I think.

One thing that struck me was the portage from McNeice to Kahshahpiwi. It's where Erin fell and hurt her ankle. The burn was in October 2011. I did the portage in September that year and it was a beautiful trail. The difference now is incredible to see. It gives a glimpse of what the portaging might look like 10 years from now in the big burn area from 2021.

That portage sounds tricky and I’ve read of others doing it. Was interesting to see how as they got more tired they definitely made more mistakes which then made them even more tired! Stuff we all have the potential to do like the water bottle being left behind. I almost left mine on shore with my waterproof case which hold my phone which I use as a gps and have a camera in that case also. We were about 30 yards from camp when I went to check if everything was secured how I like it and oh boy. Would have been a long paddle back against some gnarly wind if I hadn’t noticed it.

When they paddled around all of Glacier Lake without finding a campsite I pulled out my gps with the mapping and then checked campsite reviews. That whole area once you leave Mcewen until you get to Lousia Lake doesn’t have very many campsites. They did paddle right by a campsite Sigurd Olson had written about on Glacier lake without seeing it.

I’ve watched the longer videos several times now.

FishermanBoyle has some excellent videos in Quetico as well and just released another one a few days ago on YouTube
