We did do the Frost River on 8/12 from East to West, and the water was sufficiently high to paddle it. It was really slow going. I think we got out of the canoe about 25 times, including a dozen beaver dams. With the two inches of rain that dumped on us this morning, I’m sure it’ll be plenty high for a while.

If you end up doing this route, please post on this thread! I am looking at doing the Frost River next year around this time.

I called Tuscarora, and the gentleman indicated that the level was likely adequate. He said he last heard from a group a couple weeks ago who did the Frost River. That group reported encountering 11 beaver dams but no issues getting hung up due to low water. He also said that there’s been a couple inches of rain since then, so it shouldn’t be down much.

I’d still like to hear any firsthand accounts on the Frost River plus any suggestions about the area.

I would get ahold of Tuscarora Outfitters. They would have the most up to date info.

I’m going in at Cross Bay next week and was thinking about doing a Frost River loop. Anyone been that way recently? How is the water level? Is it worth trying in the second week of August? We don’t mind a little hard work, but we’re not looking to torture ourselves.

By the way, we have 10 days, so we have some options. I would appreciate any advice.
