What was already said about Andersons is good advice. One thing to keep in mind is that from Crane Lake all the way up to Snow Bay is motorized on the US side and all of Canada side too. This is not to dissuade you as the areas north and east of Loon are amazing as is LLC. Once on Loon the boats are dispersed if you see any at all but Crane to Loon can be busy and narrow areas before the portages could put you close to boats that may or may not be considerate and slow down for you. As long as you know what to expect go for it. If you can swing it get a tow from Andersons. It's a great experience.

Have fun!

Curious what you mean by "Not as cute." We are going in with six guys, one of which is a rookie, and one who hasn't been in 20 years.

Yep, what he said. It's fun going in over on that side; entirely different feel. Not as "cute."

I would highly recommend Anderson’s outfitters. I’ve used them and they are great. There’s a few spots to grab a beer or food the night before, I’d suggest Trail’s End bar & restaurant or Voyageurs Lodge. You can stay right across from Anderson’s at the Pine Ridge motel or Voyaguers Lodge. If you use the tow from Anderson’s and they pick you coming out they’ll even bring your preferred beverage for the ride back. Mark Anderson knows the area well and will answer all your questions the night before you enter. I used outfitters on the Gunflint, Ely, and Crane Lake. I’ve never run into a bad one and Anderson’s are as good as you’ll find.

We are thinking of going to a new area. Entry point 12 Crane Lake, then out at Entry Point 14. We need minimal outfitting, basically Canoes, and transport to take in, take out. Suggestions on Outfitter and place to stay night before and night we take out. Keeping in mind, we enjoy a few beers and dinner both nights.
We always use VNO in Ely but that is 1.5 hours to Entry 12. Looking for something more convenient.
