I might just try this route next week on my solo adventure to the Q.

In fact.............I'm planning on it!!

:)

Me, the dog and my magic. Wish me luck.

You have nothing to be sorry for. Getting to Hoare is the mother lode.
I am debating walking in from Allen but I will most likely chicken out since I will be solo. If I do make it I will let you know.

good trip idea.

a good friend and I came in from hoare and left to allan into poobah.
We did this about 15 years or so ago. September trip. no one around for days. from camel into hoare is somewhat straight forward, with good map reading and compass skills. well worth it. the way out to Allen was much more difficult. even less people have gone this way. Trust the compass! when we went through, there were lots of mangled blow downs. We scouted the route to allan after fishing hoare. it was very dark by the time we got back to the canoe. and we did not get the grouse we were chasing. Would have gone good with the lake trout dinner. this was before the 99' storm. May be difficult, but not impossible. just know what you are getting into. Good luck.

Thanks Ho Ho! I'm looking forward to your trip report as well. Kahsh is just the coolest lake and I want to somehow incorporate it into my trip next year.

Ho Ho, I sincerely hope you do a proper report of your trip. Pics, maps, fungi,... the works.

Suzanette, Burt, Marj, Joyce is a very nice route to Kahshahpiwi. However, if that seems too slack, you can also loop down via Brent and McIntyre to Sarah and take the portages from the north end of Sarah through Irene (not labeled on some maps) to Kahshawpiwi. We did both sets of portages out of and back into Kahsh on our trip a week ago, and they are both really great, with lots of up and down, huge pines, and little traffic. Details available upon request.

Paddling out Saganaga, so I'm still working on that part...... "

We did the Hunter Island loop from Sag in June, heading back south and east on the ML portages and the lakes you mention. Poobah is beautiful, ML portages are tough, the other lakes are very scenic. You'll enjoy it."

Did you paddle back on the border lakes then? Knife? Which way did you go from Kahsh then? Thanks!"

Suzanette, McIntyre, Sarah, Side, Isabella, North Bay of Basswood, Burke, Bayley Bay, Prairie Portage, Birch, Carp, Sheridan and back to Sag by way of the Man Chain.

Have you been that way Tumblehome?

The biggest white pine I ever saw is on one of these portages right next to the trail. It's around 5-6 feet in diameter at the base. Lots of big trees in the area.

There's some real nice portaging in the Marj and Joyce to Kahsh region. I have details about a real nice site on Joyce in my 2011 trip report.

I am heading into that neck of the woods this October(for another month), keep your eyes peeled for a trip report.
Stumpy 09/01/2012 01:23AM
I've been hoping to do that for years. It's just a matter of time, $, & partner.

I would start working out tomorrow. :) That trip sounds ambitiously awesome.
Kiporby 08/31/2012 05:25PM
Am I crazy? :)

Who can tell me more about this area? Seriously thinking about this area for Spring 2013. I would be coming from the North--Pickerel Lake entry.
