09/11/2012 02:00PM Nice Report, we just got back Sunday (Septmeber 9, 2012) from similar route, Boppa, SunCatcher and Byron my buddy. We came in on Cache Bay side, and went down the Man Chain and back up the border lakes to Cache Bay. We paddled the 119 Portage and also stopped at the site with the WELCOME sign. I videoed the whole creek paddle. Thanks for sharing, We did the trip report under a tarp in the rain on Saturday. Boppa will post when he gets home. Sounds like you two had a wonderful trip!!! This was all of our first trip to the Q. PS we burried all our Crap paper in a cathole with the "other stuff" Wish everyone else would, slobs!!! SunCatcher |

09/11/2012 07:43AM As long as it is a "request," I will continue to dispose of my paper in my "cathole,." which is properly dug and filled, leaving no trace above ground for the next camper. When it becomes a "regulation" I will follow the rule and pack it out. --Goose |

09/11/2012 12:29AM I've always been told to burn it. Learned that over 25 years ago when I did my first winter trip on the gunflint. Its easy and it works. |

Your guess is wrong, and I hope that Quetico does make it a regulation soon. I really don't see what the big deal is, or how people who care about Quetico would want to contribute to its campsite sanitation problems. To me it seems kind of selfish to avoid a brief unpleasant task only to pass that unpleasantness on to others who pass that way later. |

09/10/2012 04:41PM He mentioned it to us as well. Said we could pack it out or burn it. We opted for the more "traditional" route and left it buried. Jason is all business all the time, and didn't even crack a smile at any jokes I tried to make. |

09/06/2012 11:46AM Correction: my son-in-law says, Jason said "we are asking people to pack it out but it is not a regulation." --Goose |

09/06/2012 09:33AM Just called Quetico Park and was told that their 2012 guidelines (she called it their "Bible") DOES NOT say to pack out your TP. Maybe Jason was making a joke or baiting us and we didn't get it??? --Goose |

09/06/2012 09:16AMquote TuscaroraBorealis: "Nice report! TB: Ranger Jason said that the TP packing-out rule had gone into effect mid-season last year (2011), I believe. I doubt if HE was joking -- it was the last thing he mentioned in his litany of rules. Joe and I just kind of looked at one another and nothing further was said about it. (Don't ask whether we packed ours out or not.) ;-) --Goose |

09/06/2012 08:57AM Nice report! Not sure if your reference to this was meant to be taken seriously??? I'm in agreement with most LNT rules. But, packing out used toilet paper is definitely one I'd have conflict with. :) Thanks for taking the time to share your story & photos. Looking forward to reading/seeing "the rest of the story" if you're inclined to finish the last few days. |
