I haven't done it, yet. I thought about using my two 20* underquilts at the same time but wonder I it would work. Would I get condensation between the two? The hammock socks look like they would be pretty nice too. Sounds like they bump up the ha retention and can act as a "breath catcher", so condensation doesn't collect on your top quilt.

I think I'll try in my back yard before heading into the woods:)

I love winter camping in a hammock. The rain fly set up correctly helps hold in your body heat some, and it is not difficult to breath. I also have one of the neoprene face masks that just covers my mouth and nose. it works well,, and I hang a towel from the ridge line to my bag, like a baby's bib. that keeps my breath off my sleeping bag.

And I would for sure give a shout out to the Shug videos. hammockforums.com is a good website for research and advice.. it is very similar to this website.. but you can ask questions or just watch videos of how to hammock hang, or read all the stuff people have posted.

that brings up a point, in super cold weather how do you breathe? The biggest problem I have not yet solved is that I just close the bag so only the smallest of hole is left, but a couple problems:

frost develops, I lined it with a bandana but that isn't the most elegant solution

one time the hole got misaligned with my mouth, I was sleeping soundly and dreaming, suddenly a rat or something was biting my cheek, I awaoke to discover the "rat bite" was the cold on my cheek! -28 will do that LOL

I like the breath shield for condensation off the ridge line idea. -26 Minnesota Hang

Lots of other cold weather hanging links on the side

anyone else try it?
seems the lightweight way to go
I have only done it once, and correctly guessed it is important to have good insulation underneath.
hate tents, the moisture freezes on walls (cold tent)
