11/13/2012 10:23PM I received my stove and tent near the end of September. The tent was set up on my property for almost the entire month of October. After a number of nights use, and several rainy days, it was obvious to me that I needed to do something to arrest the surface rusting of the outside of the stove. Once seasoned, the outside of the stove almost immediately starts to surface rust. Its impossible to keep the stove completely dry. Rain seeps and drips down the outside of the the stove pipe because the hole in the tent is bigger then the pipe coming off the stove. Condenstation also seems to contribute. After around 20 days of use, I used Rustoleum black BBQ spray paint on the outside of the stove. Let her dry per the instuctions and fired her up to "set" the paint. I've had about 5 or 6 nights of use with the stove since, and things still look fine. Nice and black. You could also use stove polish on the outside, commonly used on cast iron stoves. Upon returning from the Winter Camping Symposium, I cleaned up everything and put it in storage waiting for winter weather. I cleaned the inside of the stove using a putty knife, and sprayed "Pam" throughout the inside of the stove. After using the "Pam", I fired up another fire, and it appears that the oil seems to season the inside of the stove similar to what you see happen while seasoning cast iron fry pans. |

11/12/2012 11:05PM I haven't weighed the tent yet, and it does feel rather light. It's the 9x11.5 model EXP Crew. If I get a chance tomorrow, I'll try to weigh it. Whitecedar - Interesting, did you coat the inside and outside with the high temp paint? Does it really make that big of a difference or any side effects from doing it? Papinator - Hopefully you get yours soon!! |

11/11/2012 11:08PM Congratulations on your new tent and stove. Have you thought about painting your stove? After I fired my new stove for the first time I let it cool down, wiped it with mineral spirits and then spray painted it with high heat barbeque paint which I purchased at Menards, it looks great and will be protected from rust. Oh btw, you will have to fire it again before you put it in your tent. Happy trails! |

11/11/2012 06:20PM Haha, I burned the stove the other day before I got the tent- outside! It's got a nice mix of color on it now! I do need to attach some screws/wires to the pipes so I feel a little bit safer when I have the stove fired up in the tent. I felt a little uncomfortable with the elbow and how secure the pipes were to it on my initial burn (I think I bent it slightly on accident). I didn't sleep in it - yet! It took up the whole living room, so we took it down! Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks I'll spend a night or two in it! |

11/11/2012 04:07PM The tent arrived, I wanted to set it up outside, but it was raining/misting out. Instead of having to deal with drying it out afterwards, I set it up in the next best place...the living room  Quite a quality piece of craftsmanship! It's finally below freezing here today, so hopefully we'll have some snow on the way! |

11/04/2012 08:40PM Got mine near the end of September and I've already spent around 20 nights in it, including a 3 nighter at the Winter Camping Symposium at Camp Miller outside of Duluth. This was my first visit to the WCS and I had a wonderful time. It's fun to see the many, many different tents, tipi's, hammocks, leanto's, stoves, and other equipment. I had an opportunity to view the Snowtrekker display at the Winter Camping Symposium, and I certainly can understand why Duane's creations dominate the market. Well made, reliable, sturdy, portable, comfortable and attractive. I'm looking forward to many more cozy nights in my Snowtrekker. |
