03/24/2015 12:45PM Nice report. I am planning on doing a solo one day and this is an area that I would like to see. I have been on Long Island and Gordon, but no further South or East. I am glad that someone recently commented on your trip. It was written before I became a member at BWCA. A great read and the pictures were excellent too. Happy paddling!!! |

03/22/2015 03:11PM Great report. I'm planning my first solo after 25 years of tripping with others. It will be my first Gunflint side of the BWCAW also. Thanks for the insight. |

02/19/2013 10:27PMquote TomT: "Very nice report. I would venture to guess that you write for a living. What you described is what a solo trip is really like. Thoughts to yourself. It's a very personal thing but you brought it to life wonderfully. The trouble is, after reading this I just ache to be back up there even more. Thanks for posting. Thank you. Though I'm no writer, at least, not in a professional way. However, I do think that the more personal one makes a piece of writing, the more universal it becomes. A real writer told me that once and I believed her. It's that time of year when we all ache for the sound and the silence of the lakes. |

01/08/2013 09:55PMquote TuscaroraBorealis: "Nice "short" report! ;) I meant it was a short trip! I'll try to write less next time :)Though, being more of a talker/storyteller - I just turn the tap on and see what comes out. I'd not know what to do if I were faced with the task of editing the thing! |

01/08/2013 09:48PM OGG - I wonder why it sounds familiar to you? I know I haven't written it before! |

01/08/2013 02:42PM Interesting. The paragraph: "I remember when I was 15 and my father had given me an errand to run before school . . . A raven had flown at me that morning as I stepped around the back of a garden. Sometimes it's the smallest things that bring you back." Sounds very familiar, as if I had read it somewhere before. --Goose |

12/04/2012 06:36PM An absolute treat. I loved both your insights, and your meandering writing style. Sounds like just about everything fell into place. |

11/11/2012 05:42AM What a great trip. It is nice to see what everyone enjoys, like some folks like hammocks and some don't, some like double portageing and some dont, etc. I always learn from the trip reports, and yours was no exception. Thanks for the great stroyline and the wonderful photos...nothing like a solo, good for the soul and mind. SunCatcher |

11/07/2012 08:57PMquote Spartan2: "I enjoyed your report very much. But I am puzzled by "Ogema", which is "Omega" on my maps and was "Omega" when we were there years ago. Did the name really change? And, if so, does anyone know when? Or has it always been different on different maps? Spartan 2- It shows as Ogema on my McKenzie map 4 - and shows as Omega on the Google maps version here, so, I've no idea. I just went with the version printed on my map. Thought it might be a derivation on an Ojibwe name rather than the greek letter. |

11/07/2012 07:34PM Enjoyed reading about your trip. Great weather. I also liked the small narrow lakes - Kiskadinna, Ogema, Henson, Pillsberry, Allen, Horseshoe - and the Cross Bay area too. I'd still like to see Gaskin and Winchell though and I'd still like to go the northern route too, through Rush and Banadad. And there's still Vista and Misquah too. I paddled around the northern bay on Ogema twice but did not see any obvious sign of the portage to Phalanx either. I"m still waiting for sunnybear to post a trip report detailing his exit from Horseshoe by way of the Brule River. It should be interesting and entertaining ;). I wish my trip could have been longer too, but I couldn't ask for better weather for a week in late Sept. |

11/07/2012 07:51AM Thanks for sharing. I like your writing style with the Irish twist. The two "fishermen" you encountered on S Temperance may well be 'Welsh'. Fleming is their name and tripping is their game, not basecamping, like the rest of our group. For a couple of last minute additions to our group, they fit in well. Anything for an excuse to visit the b-dub. |
