03/30/2014 12:44PM there is confusion out there about RABC, Quetico park and crown land. the RABC is immigration... has nothing to do with your permit to enter the provincial park or play around on crown land (Canadian lands outside quetico). this is the permit you need BEFORE you spend money on the quetico permit, Canadian fishing licenses or anything else Canadian. this permit allows you to enter Canada at a remote location such as prairie portage, cache bay... because you will not be physically driving your vehicle across a manned border crossing such as I-Falls, Warroad, Pigeon River... the Quetico permit is for your party to recreate in quetico park. (similar to the BWCA permit) enter on a specific date through a specific entry point. prairie portage is one ranger station for several entry points; Cache Bay is a ranger station for Knife lake, Falls chain, Man Chain, Boundary Point and Mack lake fly-in. Beaverhouse is a ranger station... you reserve your quetico permit up to 5 months prior to your date of entry through the Ontario Parks website. there is a reservation fee you pay at the time of booking. when you check in at the ranger station you pay your remaining quetico park camping fees which are per person per night (adult and youth rate) and can also purchase Canadian fishing licenses. Crown Land camping has a separate permitting system, on-line. these permits are per day per person(adult and child rates) and would be used for camping on, for example, the Canadian side of Granite lake, Gneiss Lake, North lake, the Canadian side of Rose, Mountain, Moose, South.. Canadian fishing licenses can also be purchased on-line and are two-part: you need to purchase the Ontario Outdoors card (good for 3 years) and the license you wish: 8 day or seasonal and then you have the option of conservation (cheaper and reduced limit) or regular. I think there is a Pin with the website links for all the places. it's best to apply for RABC because if anyone in your party is denied for some reason you have time to find a replacement or change your plans before you reserve the Quetico park permit. |
