bhouse46	07/09/2014 03:07PM I did the Falls chain last week. When checking in I was given a separate map showing the extended portages in that area. It was very helpful. Stay close to shore as you approach and as you depart below the rapids/falls. That water has some strong undertows. High water is a real issue this year.

Sorethumb	06/09/2014 10:31AM Came down the Maligne from Sturgeon on Friday/Saturday. Getting to Poobah Creek is doable but will be a serious workout - scout ahead and bushwack if necessary. Any attempt above Poobah Creek would be very difficult and risky. A party was trying to line above Poobah Creek in the second set of rapids on Friday and was struggling. Water levels are running higher than last year at this time.
tumblehome	05/08/2014 11:49AM Oh, you can't paddle through them. You'll know when you get there. They are vigorous rapids. The current on the Maligne is swift in spots too and especially strong during high water. The portages are easy to find and well worn. It's doable in a small canoe but not pure flat water the whole way. As you paddle the Maligne think about the many voyageurs that used this river during the historic fur trade era. Tom

Eyedocron	05/07/2014 09:01PM You must realize that the Malign River drains westward everything fron Saganagons, Falls Chain, Agnes up the Agnes Rivers, Kahshapiwi, Cutty,Sturgeon, and numerous other lakes and streams. Recommend taking the Portages downstream unless you are into remote no-rescue kayak trips. I've been there and not something to canoe downstream. Going upstream, you will obviously portage. If you are going upstream above Twin Falls, hug the shore and paddle hard!
Quetico Tom	05/07/2014 08:06PM Get the Fisher's Maps.Off the top of my head I will say 5 short portages from Tanner Lake. During high water it can be a tough paddle to Sturgeon. Take the portages. Do not pass up the pools along the way, great fishing. Take your time.
ArrowheadPaddler	05/07/2014 07:01PM On the Chrismar Quetico map and others, several sets of rapids are shown on the Maligne River without portages. I was wondering the status of these rapids. Runnable, lineable? Do portages exist that are not on the map? Thanks for any info.
