07/22/2014 06:40PM So sweet! Thanks so much for sharing! |

06/26/2014 10:19AM Dave, If rain is coming soon, I'm probably NOT going to get a "good" tarp set up quickly. I often take a couple of hours doing other stuff while eyeballing potential tarp options, then pick "the best" one. Thanks for the kind words though. --Goose |

06/26/2014 08:04AM The photos were beautiful and lots of fun to go through. I agree about photo #42, however. Not a sight for the faint of heart. I'm headed up there for the first time in August and I really appreciate seeing it through your eyes. My goal this year is to set a tarp up and have it look like yours. Thanks! Dave |

06/24/2014 06:32PM Suncatcher, when all was said and done, this pirate felt liked he'd walked the plank and fed the sharks. Too much "fun." --Goose |

06/24/2014 03:08PM Great Picture, Especially the one Selfie where you look like a Pirate! Arggggggg. I also like the Purdy "Husker Red" Canoe! Great time I'll bet! SunCatcher |

06/24/2014 09:23AMquote 1964James: "Are the pines on the eastern most island in Beaverhouse old growth?"That's a good question. Extensive logging was done to the east and south -- the black dashed lines on old Fisher maps are the logging roads or trails -- maybe Beaverhouse islands escaped? --Goose |

06/23/2014 07:50PM Great pics, Goose. That put-in spot... it's looks vaguely familiar. :) |

06/23/2014 01:12PM Thanks. Those old monster pines are sure a sight to see. Living history. |

06/23/2014 11:25AM Tumblehome, It's at Quetico Lake campsite #93(PCD) or LAT/LON 91.850918, +48.550023. Located on the western point of the entrance to the bay from which the eastern portage to Robin Lake starts. (I was just as impressed with the humongous pine there -- I've never seen a bigger one in that part of the park.) --Goose |

06/23/2014 07:17AM Thanks Goose. Nice pics! Brings back good memories of the BH landing. I don't know where that old cabin is. Lots of people had a tough time with the weather that week. Water is super high from the north to south and everywhere in between. Tom |

06/22/2014 09:59PM BH put-in and takeout for Q portage were higher than I've ever seen. Sunken boat at BH and 2 on the Q side. Falls were really flowing. Coming back, I parked my canoe at the old sunken log on the Q side and stepped out, dry. High water made several other landings more difficult though. Portage from parking to BH landing had water standing or running in it when I returned -- never seen that before either. --Goose |

06/22/2014 08:43PM Thanks GG. Nice choice of pics. Being wind bound has its benefits. |

06/22/2014 07:38PM Gary, Nice photos - as usual. And there seemed to be plenty of water. The BH put-in looked 2-3 ft deeper than normal. The Lund the natives use looked almost swamped. They usually have it pulled up pretty high on the bank. Old Hoosier |

06/22/2014 06:44PM gorgeous photos! brings back memories of a trip back in late september 2010... you look very familiar, like a guy we saw along the border lakes at a portage. |

06/22/2014 04:56PM Excellent photos! I will be in that part of the park in a couple of weeks. Thanks for sharing! |

06/22/2014 02:34PM Have used that trick twice in all my trips. When the tent is shaking so violently you're afraid a pole will snap. Had to move it from the deep side of the peninsula I was blown to, to the shallow side sooner or later anyway. (But that's another story.) :-) Goose |

06/22/2014 02:27PM Nice photos. Wow, you can really tell how windy it was! Great idea using the canoe as a windscreen. |
OldGreyGoose |
06/22/2014 01:52PM Very wet and windy to the point that I was grounded 3 of the first 6 days. Canoe tied in front of the tent in the one pic was to deflect the winds up and over the tent. Plan to work on a report over the next few weeks. Best day I had was when I left upper Jean and paddled/portaged about 14 miles to eastern Quetico Lake. Later, guys . . . --Goose |
