07/02/2014 08:33AMquote Jackfish: " This little booklet has many of the lake and portage names in it along with how they got their name." Thanks, I'm going to buy the booklet and take it to the Q this summer. |

07/02/2014 07:56AMquote Eyedocron: "Dead Man is an easy portage. Was a body carried across?" I was told by a Ranger that "If you are caught without a permit on the other side of this portage, you're a dead man." |

07/02/2014 07:31AM Finding any portage at 8:00 am not bad as I do - including Yum Yum where we had a coffee break at the precipice in the middle - and any portage after mid-afternoon an s.o.b. - I'd suggest they all have a morning and afternoon name. (First trip with Scouts was through Side into Kahs. Started portage after 5:00 - not sure when - but it was dark in August when we reached campsite - island near Yum Yum portage since burned over. The Scouts and I combine the other adults last name and deathmarch whenever we talk about that trip. Don't ask but through circumstances I quad portaged - including all three Grummans - and went to Kevlar ever since. I suppose I should call it heart attack portage since one of the Scouts asked if I was having one.) |

07/01/2014 09:45PM Typo, should be called Kenneykaw |

07/01/2014 09:41PM Some names are odd. Kenneybass, for example, the shot dangerous portage, goes from Kenney to Kawnipi and should be called Kekkeykaw. |

07/01/2014 01:38PM The Chrismar Adventure map for Quetico (the official map) shows names for portages that have names. It doesn't include every name you might hear people use (like Yellow Brick Road for the Bayley-Burke portage), but it has the most common or traditional. |

07/01/2014 12:59PM Does anybody know where I can find some sort of list or map that includes portage names for those portages that have names? |
