bwcadan	02/15/2015 05:37PM I have been an adult leader with scouts in BW and Q. No trash, etc. While possible scouts were the culprits, how did you reach the conclusion to lay blame on scouts and leaders where you viewed it. If conclusive proof, did you report that to Sommers Scout ranch. Not too late if not done, They need to know so as to train or exclude these offenders.
Guest Paddler	02/15/2015 08:17AM American scouting groups are everywhere in the south. Has to be some accommodation for scout leaders to take others' children. Don't know how that extends to private groups. Scout groups really ruined much of the camping on shade lake. Toilet paper gardens, cans in the fireplace, trees hacked up, etc. Whatever training they require scout leaders does not include controlling destructive behavior of narcissistic teenagers, although I admit, it may be an impossible endeavor. Good luck with that.
billconner	01/24/2015 02:02PM Use to be youth traveling in groups with programs like scouts or church groups were permitted to be included on an adult leaders RABC. Can't find that now, though one outfitter's site that seems to be current alludes to it. When we took Scouts, both leaders just listed all Scouts. We had certified copies of birth certificates for Scouts and all was well. As to paperwork, I don't fish so that makes it easy. Since I have a US passport for other reasons, US is easy with proper BWCA permit. I've never found getting an RABC much work - fill out a form, copy passport and drivers license, put down credit card, and it shows up in 2-4 weeks. 15 minutes effort. Probably less time than waiting in line at Ft Franbces or Pigeon River. Quetico permit on line and stop at ranger or park office or - next time - checking out Q100 partners. Worth it to me and no big deal.

Although it can be done, it's a pain in the neck to coordinate dates, paperwork, fees, etc., and stay within the rules and regulations when combining both parks in the way "gottafish" intends. This is especially true with a large group and/or members that include minors. The exception being if you're entering Quetico through Prairie Portage, Cache Bay, etc. and you can get in and out of Quetico in one day. Even then, doing one or the other is much more simple. That said, I know some people who love trip planning and don't mind tweaking the complicated nuances of every trip detail. Hans Solo
cowdoc	01/24/2015 11:43AM no....the OP said he may be taking a HS group....so, he would be taking some kids that were not his. I'm talking about taking kids that are not your own, even if that kid has a RABC.

tumblehome	01/24/2015 08:25AM No live or dead bait in Quetico. No barbed hooks permitted. Yes you will need Ontario fishing licenses to fish in Canada. You will need to report to US customs when you get back. You will need an RABC for each person that leaves the US. This is just a small part of the equation so it's really not feasible unless you love paperwork and spending money. You either trip in the Q or the BWCA but not meander through both. Tom
marsonite	01/24/2015 07:49AM Lac Lacroix proper isn't in the Quetico. So you can fish over there if you stick to Lacroix without a Quetico permit. You will need a RABC and an Ontario fishing license however. Once you step on shore or portage into a different lake (talking the eastern half of Lacroix) you are in the Quetico and will need a permit. You would have to go to Quetico ranger station to get one. The exception would be that some outfitters (Latourelles for one) can pick up a Quetico permit for you. Latourelles charges $100 bucks for this service (plus you have to pay for the permit itself). I believe that you can use live bait on the Ontario side of LaCroix. However, you would have to purchase the bait in Ontario and have a reciept with you. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. As for fishing without live bait, there are tons of threads dealing with the topic in the fishing forum. Jigs, twister tails, Rapalas, etc.

gottafish	01/23/2015 05:40PM I have tried reading up on the rules and regs for going into quetico from the bwca side at lac la croix. I may bring a high school group and dont want to make a mistake. Here are my questions: If i enter legally at bwca can i explore and fish quetico as long as i have a rabc permit and fishing license?(Do i need to check in with rangers on lac la croix) Do i need both a minnesota and canada license if i plan to fish both sides? Can i pick up a camping permit for quetico overnight camping somewhere in ely? (as long as i reserve it ahead of time online) Are there live bait restrictions in quetico? If there are, what do you suggest using instead?
