Agree with tumblehome. We went in Nym to Jean and out via Sturgeon/Pickerel Narrows two years ago. That was the end of May (around the 26th or so). If I remember correctly everything was iced-solid up there until about the 22nd when it just went -- almost within a day or two. Hard to predict but I'm with you and hoping for a warmer/wetter Spring for an earlier ice-out!

I am hoping for an early spring by May this year. We fished up the Gunflint in mid May last year among chunks of ice and the laker fishing was great.

Are you planning to ice fish or open water fish? That makes a difference.

Any tips/info on fishing Quetico Lake (or surrounding) in mid-May? A friend and I are headed in there through Beaverhouse looking for a mix of lakers and walleye.

Thanks for any advice you can lend.........Justin
