XJ2--I was reviewing my pictures from the trip last night, and I have a picture of my daughter and the fallen tree. It was up high enough that it didn't impact us, classic case of looking at the trail too much and not looking around to enjoy the journey.

X2J...That must of happened after my trip, I only had to deal with a lot of mud and puddles, and even that was not that bad.

It really was a great trip and we made some great memories. Thanks for all the positive comments.

BF...To be honest I have no idea how long it took us, I left all time keeping devices behind in my car, on purpose. But my impression was that it took about 4-5 hours....just a guess. That was a VERY relaxed paddle, no real side trips and triple portages on the way in.

Great report, heading up there on 6/20. My wife & are staying at rockwood and looking to do a day trip, small pack and some fishing poles, to caribou or horseshoe. I've logged many miles with son from Northern Tier, looking to share some of the BWCA beauty with her. Great to know about the portages. I calculated about a 4.5 mile trip from Rockwood, just curious roughly how long it took you from poplar to Horesehoe?

I, too, enjoyed your report very much. I wish there had been even more photos. Looks like you and Izzie had a great time. I envy you the moose sighting--we haven't seen one in years, and we would very much like to show our granddaughter a moose sometime!

I really enjoyed your report. I just had a daughter 5 months ago and I can't wait until I can share these same kind of experiences with her. I'm taking her into Kawishiwi this August but it won't be the same as when they can remember.

This will probably be one of the trips actually. Did you enjoy that tree down over the lizz to caribou portage, lol. I was just there 2 weeks ago.

Good for you Koonie!

While I can appreciate how a Dad/Daughter relationship is different, I think I can relate how priceless that time with your child is from the time I spent with my son last year at the very same sight you and your daughter camped at (I agree--it is an awesome sight even though we got skunked on fish there). At one point he said, "You, know, Dad, you planned a pretty good trip!"

Does it get any better than that?

Great bonding time for father and daughter. Wish I had that opportunity again to take my kids when they were younger. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words, I agree the 1:1 time can't be beat, I wish my other 3 kids would come up but they are completely uninterested. Maybe the pictures and stories will help...who knows.

But for now Iz and I are planning our next trip, maybe as early as Sept/Oct. We really need to work on our paddling skills though.

Happy paddling!

Yeah, I just went ahead and read the intro not realizing the rest of the report was just the intro made more readable ;).

LOL when I first starting reading this post I didn't see who posted it and thought it was some jackdonkey being a jerk. :). I was laughing at myself when I realized it was you telling us not to read the intro.

Great report! Thanks for sharing. Don't tell my wife but I think my daddy/daughter trips are my favorite and most special. That one on one bonding time is priceless. My first daddy/daughter trip was entering at Lizz with my older daughter when she was 7. I love that area and have been there 3 times. I'm bummed you didn't get to see the resident moose on Horseshoe.

Next week my younger daughter gets to do her 2nd trip with me and she's 7. I didn't know it was possible for me to get more pumped for it but your report did just that.

Enjoyed your trip report, koonie (rhymes w/boonie :). It sounds like you and your daughter had a very nice trip. Horseshoe is a very pretty lake.
