I traveled through a few burn areas in the BWCA in 2013, and was really glad to have done so. Rattle Lake, just north of Gabimichigami, was otherworldly.

Thanks for your comments. I was glad that we traveled through a burned (and recovering) area: I gained a perspective that was unique for me. I wouldn't want to camp for an extended time in a burned area, but I did appreciate the new opportunity. Also, I might never have encountered a Black-backed Woodpecker if we hadn't gone through there. I read that burned areas are a preferred habitat for those birds.

I enjoyed reading your report and looking at the pictures. Thanks.

Good report. Enjoyed the pictures. I must admit I was apprehensive about the ports in and out of Jigsaw Lake due to length and the recent burn. However I really enjoyed them. I split them in half and when I got up on top and went back for the second load. The thick growth of new jack pines coming in reminded me of a Christmas tree farm. I took lots of time to do them. I also enjoyed the campsite on Jigsaw. That had to be a really beautiful lake before it burned.
