10/30/2016 02:53PM I was going to suggest a large lake like Sag or Seagull. But you still would have to pull over and land at a campsite so that's a wash because landings are like portages. I guess you need to invest in a good pair of knee high boots. Maybe travel in the spring when water levels are high. |

10/28/2016 12:11PM I would suggest Beaverhouse in the Q. The put-in is a tad rocky but mostly mud shore. Can wade to make it easy on the cedar. Once in, you have a huge lake to explore for days and days with zero portages. The lake has it all. Inflowing waterfall from Quetico on the east end, massive open water with miles and miles of shore to explore. A ranger station on the southeast corner. The west end has the outflowing river. There are islands to camp on. There are camp sites at the west end with huge sand beaches and gentle slopes for easy canoe exit or even safe summer swimming for a young family that are as good as any ocean beach I have been to. There are pictos on the south west cliffs. and logging relics on the far west end. You can fish for lakers, trophy pike and SMB by the gazillions. All wrapped in the sweet aroma of pure solitude. Only saw one canoe in a week 3 years ago (once away from the east end put-in) What's not to like? Old Hoosier |

10/28/2016 10:09AM Your best bet, Pete, is probably a big lake, no portage trip or close to it. You know - Seagull, Saganaga, Moose, etc. |

I think I woke my wife up! Old salt, I do hop out in knee deep water. Not looking for a sand beach at every portage but manageable rocks. Took a tumble coming out in September. Just got me thinking. I do realize the unlikelihood of this idea. |

10/27/2016 11:13PM Hop out in knee deep or deeper water at ALL landings. That makes them all soft. Or paddle aluminum if you want to grind the shorelines. |
