quote FOG51: "First off welcome to the board. Nice report. Sounds like you guys had a pretty good trip in spite of the weather. You couldn't have been packed to heavy you ONLY had to double portage, some of my early trips I got to know every rock and root on the portages because I saw them many times on each portage. You travled with a stove, always a good idea and double goos when the water is cold, a hot drink might make all the differance in the world to you or someone you don't even know. Really smart to carry a tarp, one thing I never trip without. One thing I do when I get camp set up is to gather some dry firewood and cover it up with a piece of cheap plastic tarp. Glad to see your going back, hope you don't have to wait to long. FRED"

Yep, Only double portages, we weren't going for a marathon by any means, but we had approximately 250 lbs of food/gear with us, which was definitely too much.

After I wrote this earlier in the year I kinda went on a gear making binge, and have been making my own nylon tarps and packs (both leather and canvas, and cordura) for most of the spring, even picked up a used Alumicraft 17' Quetico model (which, after making the needed repairs, has been heavily used by my buddy and I).

Our next entry is June 7th on Lake One headed to Insula lake, with the intention of fishing and laying the hammock for the duration (skipping the tents entirely this year).

Of course all this talk of adventure has caught the attention of the wife, and she and I plan on doing Lake One again later in the season this year.

Too bad the beaver threw the hook. That would have made for a great dinner.

Still sounds a good experience despite the bad weather.

Too bad you didn't have better weather for your first trip, but you did have a learning experience which will make the second trip better :).
