Been usually a pants person but thought like a bib would go up your back some while seating in the canoe, thus a little more protection.

I've never had a problem with pants, besides the jacket covers up everything while sitting.

i used to put rain pants over my quick dry pants, then figured, what for?? the quick dry do dry quickly. however, if i'm wearing long johns under the quick dry then i have to use rain pants. i thought bibs would be nice for early spring or late fall.

Bought some bibs about 10 years ago and won't go without them.

Pants with full length zippers. Easy to put on while sitting in the canoe.

Bibs in the shoulder seasons-- pants in the warmer months.

I'm with the "season" guys. June 23rd it doesn't make a lot of difference if you get wet.

Like Mocha said. In the spring- fall seasons it is nice to maybe go with bibs and stay a little dryer.

Nothing worse than fishing or canoeing early spring in a rain-snow mix and getting wet. It does help to have that little extra long rain jacket-coat also.

I am a shoulder season guy up there and bibs for me.

Over the years I've had both bibs and pants, the bibs will keep you drier but watching me trying to put on bibs in a canoe is like watching Booboo the Balancing Bear, not pretty but amusing to my fellow paddlers. The pants have long leg zippers so they go pretty easy, plus they don't get as hot as bibs, they won't keep you as warm as bibs however. FRED

Unless it's quite cold and/or I'm going to be sitting around, I don't bother wearing rain pants.

Same with me. Even when I've been out and it's snowing, I'm fine.

I use pants. My jacket covers my butt, so I don't worry about water wicking up my back.

We've tried both and I really prefer bibs, however, they are too heavy for us to pack again so we're back to gortex paclite pants with an extra long jacket.

Pants person. I buy my Raincoats long enough to cover by backside even when seated in a canoe.

Only reason for this would be to keep warm. If it's not cold/chilly then it's optional I would think.

I'm with mocha on this one. Unless it's real cold not worth putting on.

I've got pants but don't much like wearing them. In the canoe if I use them at all I usually just drape them over my lap to keep my thighs dry. Boots and raincoat do the rest. It's actually made me consider the possibility of a rain kilt! I've seen images of people on the AP using them and it would be just enough in the canoe.

Just a Dri Ducks overcoat and quick dry pants for me.

What time of the year are your trips? Seems like a cold way to go early season. I have had days in Quetico first week of June snow-rain mix and a high of 32 degrees. That is hypothermia weather.

I'd agree with you, Pinetree. Early June I like to have my rain pants along to stay as dry as possible. Under 70 degrees and a steady rain, let alone a breeze, with wet clothes can start to get chilly. I don't own bibs, but am sure they are nice. Going into BW in July with a good looking forecast, I'd probably leave the pants at home and just get the shorts or pants wet knowing they would dry quickly.

I am an early season, hard core fisherman, bibs guy. When seated in a canoe bibs are great. Water doesn't drip down your pants when you lean forward. I also like the additional wind protection.

One thing when canoeing at least get a jacket a little extra long to cover your back side while sitting.
