What do most of you do with the oil that you cook with? Do you pack it out or put it somewhere? I cant imagine many of you dump it considering many unwanted guests may visit you in the middle of the night. Just wondering if many of you use it and if you do, what do you do with it? Thanks

If there is not much and you have a fire it will burn up in the fire... otherwise I soak it up with paper towels and put it in a plastic bag to haul out, or use some it later to start a fire.

My first trip into BWCA we used an outfitter and they gave us way too much oil. That, and we ended up not eating very much fish. Since I was with my wife, I was the one who protaged the stupid food bag around and that 2 liter container of oil was HEAVY. We ended up frying everything...eggs...french toast...veggies...ham...everything just to get rid of the oil so I wouldn't have to haul it around.

I use it, but pretty sparingly. I take perhaps 4 oz. A few drops in the pan and smear it around with a paper towel. Burn the towel as fuel or fire starter. If there is a fire ban, I pack it out.

Obviously, I don't do any deep frying. If you're looking to cook fish, pan frying works well, but my prefered methods are to either bake in foil or poach in water.

I usually carry about 8 oz. of oil(for a week), and plenty of squeeze butter. I do not use breading on the fish so I combine oil and butter add creole seasoning, or Emeril's Essence to the fish, sautee and eat! the butter is also used on pancakes, bannock, cheesecake, oatmeal and other culinary delights. I carry at least one bottle of squeeze butter for 2-3 people. I never carry a lot of oil. Therefore not much leftover

I can't imagine hauling it around (or out) if you brought too much or don't need it... burn it up in a fire!
