Just finished re-framing a Sierra Designs Flashlight CD 3. Picked up cheap needed a rear frame replacement. Because I got it so reasonable I decided to upgrade the frame a bunch to .433/11mm poles. After less than $100 invested my grandsons scout group will get a strong very nice tent.

A Thank You to Bear Paulsen for the tent! The kids will enjoy it a lot!

Ken, you are an amazing person! I don't always respond to posts, but I always enjoy your wisdom and the photos you attach.

The Scouts are going to sleep well in your reconditioned tent!

Dave

Hey Ken, I have a different sort of tent question for you (or anybody else). You know I have a BA Emerald 3 with an attached garage. You also may remember me mentioning that I got wet that night it rained at the past fall wingnight. Fast forward to this past weekend. I set it up without the tent body to find the leaks in the fly and discovered that the seam tape is breaking down and peeling on the fly. Ever fix that sort of thing? I really like this tent and don't really want to replace it.

I got to talk to Rob from Big Agnes 2 years ago, specifically asked about repairs for the Emerald MT. His recommendation was to take care of it because it will not be serviced with the exception of the poles. While a favorite of users (and himself), it was too expensive to produce and has been dropped. If warranty work is claimed they will offer a refund on another tent.

Just wanted to point out BA's position. Far as fixing yours, I'd remove the loose seam tape (carefully), clean it best as can and apply Sil Net
Try to retain as much of the original intact seam tape. I cleaned with alcohol but Dan at CCS may have a better suggestion for cleaning. To keep the seam neat you can tape off the area aside the seam removing the tape after sealing (a suggestion by oldfingers57 if I remember).
I have done 2 tents, one with urethane coating (used Seam Grip on that), and one silnylon. Both worked well, but I lowered my expectations of their lives and semi retired both. The silnylon Walrus Lite Star is still in my family.

I have a Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight 2 person tent. Whether solo or with larger groups I usually take it for just me. I can fit it in and set it up almost anywhere.

It's my "Fortress of Solitude!"

Need to correct something I suggested to MBarley. I said use Sil-Net based on my assumption the fly is Sil-nylon, sure looks and feels like it. But Few sil-nylon impregnated tents use taped seams. Best to ask Big Agnes for their recommendation.
