What do you experts say?

I have been using gore tex as my most reliable but have some laminates?

rainproof-I hope

So many to chose from and are any as good as Goretex. I heard some good things about event.
Laminates scare me for do they wear off?

I am a Gore-Tex fan as it has always worked for me (pretty sure it is a laminate). Now, I am in the market for some new rain pants, and if there is something out there that works as well as G-T does and is less expensive, I would be more than willing to give it a try. Currently looking at Arcteryx pants. Love the jacket I have from them, but the stuff is expensive. Will be following this thread!

"Laminates scare me for do they wear off?"

Laminates are sheets of material bonded together, not coatings. As such they do not "wear off". Event and GoreTex are examples of laminates.

Correction on my part than, I was thinking more of the poly coating on the interior.

Wow, thanks for that- I learned a lot. That explains why running, or athletic exertion is not comfortable in my preCip jacket. Also explains how the sea-to-summit eVent dry bags work. Very cool.
