I would like to get my 2 boys down underquilts. The prices though are quite high and have caused me to wonder about cheaper ways to acquire them.

Does anyone know if outfitters rent them out and sell them at the end of the year?

Have you looked at the Economy line from Hammock Gear? http://www.hammockgear.com/econ-quilts/

Not a personal recommendation as I've never tried one but the prices are more tolerable.

I just purchased the Incubator, and Burrow 20. I'm headed in tomorrow, I will post on how I liked them when I get back.

If you can sew a little they are easy to make with some of the down throws sold at costco or other big box stores. They'll manage down to around 40 degrees.

One of the underquilt makers does rent them. I cannot remember which one.

I've never heard of outfitters having top quilts or under quilts. I do second the earlier post and encourage you to look at the Hammock Gear Econ quilts. I bought an Incubator Econ 40 underquilt and a Burrow Econ 40 top quilt . The build quality is fantastic and the price point is a real game changer.

http://www.hammockforums.net in the For Sale section tends to have a pretty steady supply since most hobbyists can't help but have constant upgrade-itis.

Wow, I missed that when I checked there earlier. Those prices are indeed different.

Thanks unshavenman and Alan Gage.

I've been hammocking for over ten years trips from may to oct never used an underquilt not worth the money, I just use a foam pad. I usually just use a couple of fleece blankets instead of a sleeping bag too.

I recently purchased a DD Hammock underquilt. It has not been field tested yet but I have high hopes.
