We are driving up from Georgia and need to stop at a Fishing Tackle store to purchase tackle not available in our area. We will be taking Hwy 53 from Eau Claire to Superior/Duluth and then up to Ely. Can anyone recommend a decent tackle shop along our route?

Thanks in advance.

Piragis in Ely usually has a good assortment of lures too.

There was a Gander Mountain in Duluth ( Hermantown ) which was recently bought out by Camping World. You might be able to find some good deals on closing clearance there if they are still open.

There was a Gander Mtn JUST on the East edge of EauClair . Went to their grand opening in 2008. Excellent tackle selection. Not stopped in a couple years but could still see it coming in from East off I-94. Maybe still open; their website says so.
The Great Outdoors or Voyager North Outfitters have plenty in Ely both on Sheridan St. main drag.

I'll bet if you check bass pro locations along the way you will be within five or ten minutes of several or cabellas the same thing.

There is a Bass Pro north of Cincinnati on 275 just off of 75 if you are coming up 75 from Georgia. There is also a Field and Stream south of Dayton, in Springboro at the Austin Landing just off of 75.

Thanks for the input, if we make it to Ely early enough, we will probably do some additional shopping there. Don't want to use Gander Mtn as they are having issues and I don't know if the stores that are not closing will have the stock.

What about Scheels in Eau Claire? Decent fishing selection?

What about on the Gun Flint end of the park? Would it be best to stock up in Grand Marais or Duluth? Would rather spend money in Gun Flint area.

Marine General in Duluth, if they ain't got it, you don't need it!! Also Fishermans Corner in Hermantown.

+1 on for Marine General in Duluth.
Also there is a new Fleet Farm just up the hill in Hermantown.
