We have a sawyer Kevlar canoe that we need some help with pricing on. It is 17'9 and the model is a cruiser and the serial number is SAW00697D484. I would appreciate any help that anyone could give me.

I paid $700 in the Duluth area for an '88 cruiser in the same layup (and even color!). Based on the photos, the one I purchased was in similar shape. The layup is called "Expedition Kevlar" I believe, but Hans Solo will undoubtedly weigh in here to be sure. Mine is a tad different - an extra thwart in the stern and the stern seat is attached to the sides of the hull, not the wood runners like pictured. An awesome canoe to paddle and trip in. This was my first canoe and after paddling many others I'm convinced I'll never sell.

right you are dudz3636! It's hard for me to avoid throwing in on a Sawyer canoe thread. :-)

It's definitely "Expedition Kevlar", which was Sawyer's heavy duty, all Kevlar fabric lay-up. The hull and the interior look to be in good shape, although the gel-coat looks a bit faded and oxidized.

I'd suggest maybe using a good wax like Marine Meguiar's Flagship Premium Cleaner/Wax or their Liquid Boat/RV Cleaner Wax. If you can't find the Marine Boat wax, their standard Liquid Automobile Cleaner Wax in the burgundy colored bottle would really brighten up the gel-coat. Using any of those products to spiff up that Cruiser could merit another $100.00 or so in my opinion. It won't make the boat any stronger or faster, but shinning up that Cruiser would just be a nice merchandising tweak IMHO.

I tend to think you could easily ask and receive $800.00 to $900.00 for that Cruiser. I see several 1980's era Sawyer's for sale in my area. Some sellers are asking $1,200.00 or more, which I think is a little high. Those Sawyer's priced over $1,000 don't seem to move too fast. The older 1980's Sawyers tend to sell quickly when priced around $900.00 or less.

The stern seat is definitely not a stock seat arrangement. It's similar to the earlier solo canoe sliding seat set-up that I had in my 1982 Sawyer DY Special solo. That could be somewhat of a deterrent to a potential buyer.

Hope my input is helpful.

Good Luck!

Are you keeping the price at 1500 on cl or coming down?

Nevermind he put 1500 on it in Madison cl after heard 800 to 900 as price guess he wants to keep it.

In our neck of the woods a 30+ year old kevlar 49 tandem sells for $450-750 depending on condition.

Hmmmm....

The Craigslist ad says they want to get rid of it so make an offer.
