My Pfleuger 6920 came with an extra spool. None of my other reels did. Doesn't seem like Pfleuger does that anymore? New spare spools seem like $20+shipping (Pfleuger or Shimano). Might as well buy a second reel.

So if you want two line weights, do you bring 2 reels or 2 spools or two entire rod/reel combos?

I bring one outfit and 2 spools for my Stradic, but they both are loaded with 6 lb Gamma Polyflex Copolymer in Moss Green or Clear. Basically insurance against that unsolvable bird's nest (or being spooled by the big one!) I'm nearly exclusively after 'eyes so identical spools make sense to me...

Important safety tip: only buy reels with an extra spool( yea, sounds stupid), but worth it when deciding on line!! For walleyes, I carry one in 8(mainstay), and one with 4 lb, for "those days".

Yeah, I guess, in hindsight, I would have gotten a reel that came with 2 spools. But, when I looked around the store yesterday, seems like I have to go to a pretty high end reel fot that nowadays. Am I missing an exception?

No, you'll be getting close to 100$... however, quality stuff will last a long time. Just this winter I retired two Shimano Calcuttas I bought when they first came out('88- 89ish). 140$ a piece back then was a princely sum, and I stopped using them only because parts for maintenance were no longer available. Worth every penny!!

8 and 10 pound Trilene XL. Always carry an extra spool of new line in my stuff sack.
