We're planning a trip from Kawishiwi Lake and the most direct/fastest would take us through Babbitt to highway 1 on Scott Road (county 70 and 112 and forest road 424). Is this road open to general traffic and is it a reasonable route to take?

Open and a nice drive. Sometimes the gravel will be washboard and slower, maybe 30 mph in spots. Its called Tomahawk Road ( some call it new tomahawk rd).

It's fine shape for travel. Not much in babbit if you needsupplies though. You can put the pedal to the medal from the crossroads to before you enter babbit. Big flat straight roads with nary a sherrif in site.

I drive it quite often. Easy drive. Probably won't see another car on the road.

It's been a long time, but I always liked that drive across there.
