Heading in this week through Mudro and wondering if anyone has some last minute recommendations / locations / presentations for fishing these lakes, mainly targeting walleye and smallmouth. We will be taking leeches and plenty of the common lures and soft plastics.

We are not certain where we are going to base camp, and it is a possibility that we will be heading up to Thunder / Beartrap for a day too.

Thanks.

We stayed on Gun lake several years ago. There was one afternoon and evening in the east bay of the "handle" that we could not keep the bass and walleye off of our lines. several hours of great fishing in clear 20 foot deep water. Jigs with grub tails and leeches were the ticket. You could watch the fish fight for the bait. Also the steep shoreline along the south west end of the lake produced many great small mouth. we tossed a jig and grub in about 8-10 feet of water along the downed trees and caught small mouth after small mouth. Caught a couple decent northern trolling up the "barrel" of the lake. We stayed at campsite that is north of the portage from Fairy. it was not a bad site and we had a fisher visit us at least once while there.
Should mention this was in August.

Not much info on the other lakes but I strongly recommend heading up to Beartrap if you are looking for walleyes. We were there the exact same time of year several years back and could not keep them off our lines. Cranks picked up fish casting shorelines throughout the day but slip bobbers and leeches fished in about 7 feet were money. The point where Home creek dumps in to the lake was absolutely on fire.

Thanks, tarnkt. We are hoping to make it up there, but if it's a great few days of fishing on the other lakes, we may not make Thunder or Beartrap. I definitely intend to make it there on a future trip to stay, and then do the river to Sunday Lake.

Gull Lake provided good #s of bass, northern & walleye for us a few years ago. The camp nearest the portage to Gun is quite nice.

We ended up staying at the peninsula site on Gull, very nice. We had 2-1/2 good days of fishing this lake for walleye, pike, and smallmouth. Smallies weren't really huge, but in decent number, walleye seemed to be mostly in the 16 - 20" size range. Shallow water on southern and western shores is where we concentrated the most (4 - 7 FOW) with leeches, both slip bobbering and TGO method.

If anyone hits this site in the near future and finds a pair of Marmot Precip rain pants, black, size L Tall, let me know, I would appreciate it! I think the wind blew them into the woods or water during an afternoon of really strong gusts.
