No monsters but lots of good fish.
The pike was the first cast of the trip. That really motivated the boys to get out and wet some lines.

39.....couldn't stretch her tail to a 40 :)

I had a bigger one T-bone a 16 inch walleye and stayed on for about 15 seconds and then let go. The next walleye I hook that pike comes up from under the canoe like jaws and just sucks up my walleye. I give it some line and let run for a time. Then I closed the bail, fish was on. It stripped the drag a few times, not even sure if it knew it was hooked. Came to the surface once about 20 feet from the boot and you could see the top of it's tail protruding from the lake surface. Then it took off on another run and the line just broke. The line looked real funny when I brought it back in. It looked like someone wrapped my line around a pencil about 20 times. Just a long string of tiny loops. All I can think was maybe the line was wrapped around a tooth or between the teeth to make something like that happen. It was a monster.

A few photos from last week in the Quetico. My 13 year old son caught the 40.5" pike on a surface popper at dusk from camp. He also caught several nice 20+" walleyes on the trip and lost one at the surface that would have been in the upper 20's.
My pike measured 42", caught on a jig and twister fishing for walleye's.
