Hi folks, heading up to do a 4 day trip mid July and will be starting at Moose lake and heading north in a clockwise direction and will be hitting Ensign along with some smaller lakes to the south finally ending up on SnowBank lake.

Any do's or dont's for that route as advice is much appreciated, not sure if I want to fish or not yet.

On that route in July don't wait too late in the day to claim a campsite.

Get a tow across Moose and Back. It will save you time and allow you to get deeper in up on Knife.

+2 Just got this tow on the way out of Moose last week and on the way back. We made it to knife pretty quickly on the way in which was helpful since a lot of the sites on the West side of Knife were full and we ended up in the South Arm. on the way out it felt a little like cheating as we flew past paddlers that were struggling in the wind. Well worth the $.

I guess I have to add my 2 cents on Moose. I use to tow on Moose but for past 5+ years paddle. I love it. Have never experienced the traffic that is often cited hear - none to maybe 2-4 tows go by on opposite side of lake. I go to paddle and seems contrary to take a tow. Nice transition to wilderness and I like the familiarity. Great if entering in afternoon after driving up - I have always found numerous sites open - and then really get a head start on everyone else the next day, instead of staying in Ely.

Just thought you should hear the other side ISRO. And by the way, if starting on Moose, you can portage from Snowbank back to Moose. It's outside of BWCAW but doesn't matter at end of trip. One time we portaged all and the other time we left packs at Snowbank landing and just portaged canoe. Longish but easy.

Easy 2 hours in my experience. But prevailing wind is down the lake. Early start should be fine.

Our last trip would of taken us considerably more than 2 hours to get back. The wind was SW and we were very happy to have the tow waiting. Besides the outfitter we use is always a pleasure to do business with. Wonderful family.
