I'm heading in the Stuart River EP on Wednesday morning. I've wanted to try this EP for a long time and I'm finally getting the chance. We're heading up to Iron and then west into Boulder Bay and out through Moose River EP. Does anyone have any recommendations for day trips, fishing spots or must see things along this route? Thanks so much!

The bottom of the falls where the Stuart river dumps into the lake is supposed to be good fishing. You'll want to see curtain falls and the pictos on LLC. Very nice loop. Did it last fall solo and posted a video report.

Brux,

Thanks for the input. I've seen your video before in all of my trip preparation. Great video. We'll be sure to check out Curtain (I've had great success fishing at the bottom of Curtain), my wife's never seen it, maybe the Pictos and Warrior Hill as well. I'm thinking of possibly heading up the Dahlgren River on a day trip to see if we can get to Batista. I've always had that lake on my radar because I know there used to be a campsite there. Seems like it could be a gem if you can manage to get to it. I'm hoping water levels are high enough to make that possible. Any thoughts/experience on Batista?

I haven't been on the Dahlgern yet. I'm guessing that Batista would be a bushwhack. The marsh doesn't look navigable from Google earth. Good luck and let us know how your trip went!

If you camp on Stuart, I really liked the site across from the Dahlgren portage. My favorite site in the 2 trips I have taken. Also, I did a day trip on the Dahlgren from Stuart, that portage is a beauty. Old pines and a nice waterfall at the end. If you take the Bottle portage, there are 2 choices, a steep up and down, or the flat muddy trail. Pick your poison.

I'm doing the same trip next month. I'd love to hear how your trip goes!

With regards to Warrior Hill, is it on the Canadian side? Is it okay to hike it if that is the case?

Yup, Warrior Hill is Canadian! Hike up without proper papers - at your own risk.
Though the pictographs on the wall at Irving are on Canadian soil - they are easily seen from the water which is legal.

Have a great trip!
