We safely returned from our trip to Cache Lake June 10th to 17th, but decided not to make the trip to Zephira as the kids and dads were ready to just settle into a campsite after that long Trousers to Cache portage. We did accomplish that, though, so felt pretty proud of the youngsters (ages 10,11,13,13) that they did it both ways.

Anyway, we had a great trip and saw literally nobody from the time we left the EP until we returned.

The biggest disappointment was the fishing. We spent minimal time on Baptism Lake (basically trolling through each direction) and caught decent numbers of pike. We also spent several days on Trousers Lake and caught fair numbers of pike (nothing over 29 inches), but still not the greatest numbers.

We spent several days and many hours fishing Cache Lake and only caught yellow perch. This surprised me as I've never heard of this species in Quetico, but I'm sure they are everywhere. What was disappointing is that we couldn't even catch a pike in Cache. The entire week we never caught a smallmouth, lake trout, or walleye despite efforts for each of these species.

I've heard that Cache has lakers and we have caught them on other trips, but struck out on this trip.

I'm just curious if others have seen the same thing in these lakes and maybe I should have asked these questions before we decided to head that direction. Even though we had an amazing trip, we all had higher hopes for the fishing as do most folks visiting Quetico.

If anyone wants current information on those lakes and/or portages or anything else about that part of the park, I'll be glad to answer.

Looking forward to returning in 3-4 years, but we'll stick to the lakes we have had much better fishing success in.

I have had similar fishing success in those lakes. I have caught perch and lake trout in Cache. I was in the park from June 16 through the 25th and did not have the best fishing.
