The Chocolate Moose was the scene of a traffic accident yesterday afternoon when a Forest Service truck struck a parked car on the opposite side of the street!

That's one way to check for Permits.

Evidently, the prospect of a piece of chocolate moose cake can cause people to move too hastily.

Funny. That was my first thought too. Looks like the car was really crunched though; definitely not a love tap while parallel parking.

Looks undamaged.... emphasis on looks. Its crooked on the car & its apparent that it got twisted while under tension by the straps. Hope also it was the end of the trip and not the start!

Yikes; I was parked in that exact spot the day before!!

How do you strike "a parked car on the opposite side of the street"? It would seem you would need a projectile or a projection at the very least to hit something that wasn't where you was.

When something similar happened to my buddies back in the 70's, the police report read "Cat ran in front of vehicle; D1 swerved to avoid." The word for those in the know was that a bong was involved.... ;)

Very easy when you reeeally cross the centerline!!! :)

I think the wheel lying in the road is actually from the pickup truck's driver's front corner...ouch...

I believe he meant the accident happened on the opposite side of the street from "the Great Outdoors" store front.

That would explain a swerve across opposite lane. Wheels typically work better while still attached to your vehicle.

Perhaps the pickup's wheel came off causing a loss of control and the destruction of some poor soul's new Subaru

I don't know about other parts of the country, but in Indiana, Kevlar canoes are pretty rare. Folks ask what it is made of, and when I tell them Kevlar...

I really am tired of being asked if it is bullet proof.

I'm just glad to see more white USFS vehicles and fewer of those ugly green ones.

Did the wheels stay on the ugly green ones?

Piragis (in the background of the picture) is on the same side of the street as TGO's shop and a few blocks away. I think that the truck did hit a car that was parked on the opposite side of the street that it was traveling on.

Change the headlight bulb QUICK while it's easy to get at...they are a bugger on those Outbacks otherwise, for sure! They burn out faster than Christmas tree lights..

I like the green ones.......like the classic brown and yellow signs, they've been with me as far as I can remember. But that's progress, I guess. Maybe they're making them the same color as Border Patrol? Or maybe the USFS was tired of the color, too.

Seems tough to fall asleep while driving through town....maybe after a big lunch? Worse if a pedestrian got hurt.

Somebody is likely to lose their job..........especially if phone records are handed over. My first inclination when witnessing wrecks (I drive a lot) is the obsession people have with their phones. I sit up high when I drive and the number of folks looking at their freaking phones while driving is absolutely astonishing.

I can't see any telltale scrapes on the pavement the truck would have made if the tire came off while driving? Until you get past the smashed car.

Fleet vehicles are always cheaper in white. Unless some funky color that didn't sell is available in quantity.

I think it has to do more with the vehicles in the green being very noticeable, and in places out in the wild wild west were they have an intense dislike for the feds (and perhaps parts of Ely), they stuck out like a sore thumb. I used to work for the NPS, and have friends who work for the FS who would tell stories of how people would flick them off in rural Idaho as they drove by.
