quote LindenTree3: "Yep, my old work place, Region 3, USFWS.
I was a firefighter there for 14 years out of Detroit Lakes, MN, before transferring to Alaska.
I went from managing fire on a Landscape for 800,000 acres in MN, to 30 million acres.
A good hardorking group of professionals in MN and AK, who continually struggle to do more, with less people and smaller budgets."
Especially now with the big cuts. My brother when he lived in Ely in the late 60's said Superior National Forest had like 350 employees when he was there,I don't know the percent of which full time employees, maybe all? Now they have less than half that amount of staff if even that.
Detroit lakes area actually has some nice lakes(very good fishing) and to the South you had all that pothole country mixed with oak forest. Actually a nice area. Lot of wildlife. Probably even had moose there before they have now almost disappeared from much of the northwest part of the state.
