Just got an email from save the boundary waters. The subject of the email was a bill introduced by Emmer that apparently is no good. I'm sure I agree with that but was shocked that they didn't identify the bill, didn't link to a copy of the bill and didn't provide any contact info for Emmers office. Now that's annoying in it's own right but I could probably find that info on my own, just not very efficient for your supporters and surely won't get as much response. But what eerks me is they found no less than 6 places to link to a donation page. All I can say is come on guys, at least give us some solid info with the requests for money. I know fund raising and fighting the good fight are closely linked but we do have to do our jobs on both sides.

Nope, they are trying to save the Boundary Waters.
Here is the email I got from Friends of the BWCA

We need your swift action today. Representative Tom Emmer is introducing a bill in Congress that:

Reinstates the Twin Metals mineral leases on the edge of the Boundary Waters. The U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management denied the renewal of these leases because sulfide mining on the edge of the wilderness is too risky. The Emmer bill would reverse that decision.

Does not allow a mineral withdrawal to protect the BWCA unless it is approved by Congress. The Secretary of the Interior has authority over mineral withdrawals and is currently considering one to protect the BWCA. Emmer's bill would take this authority away from the Secretary for the Superior and Chippewa National Forests.

Rescinds the Antiquities Act (which allows the President to establish national monuments) for the Superior and Chippewa National Forests. Although the current president is unlikely to use this authority, the bill would rescind the authority for future presidents.

Our federal representatives need to hear that this bill is unacceptable.

Please take a moment to call your representative and ask him or her to actively oppose Tom Emmer's bill.

Representative Tim Walz, 1st District - (202) 225-2472
Representative Jason Lewis, 2nd District - (202) 225-2271
Representative Erik Paulsen, 3rd District - (202) 225-2871
Representative Betty McCollum, 4th District - (202) 225-6631
Representative Keith Ellison, 5th District - (202) 225-4755
Representative Tom Emmer, 6th District - (202) 225-2331
Representative Collin Peterson, 7th District - (202) 225-2165
Representative Rick Nolan, 8th District - (202) 225-6211
Thanks for all you do and for taking the time to help protect the Boundary Waters and our public lands.

Sincerely,

I called Tom Emmer, I hope to see him at the local brew pub in Delano soon, so I can let him know in person that I am against the bill.
