Good evening,

I’m am heading up to the Ely side of the bwca, Labor Day Weekend. I am looking for a fun day trip from Ely. Maybe two of them.

I would like to see some beauty but really want to fish. I have been on the Gunflint Trail side of the boundary waters several times but this is my first time on the Ely side. Any tips or pointers to get me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks and I hope you have a wonderful canoe season too.

Many suggestions for day trips, in fact too many to describe on a post.
Contact any Ely outfitter by phone and they will be able to help you.

So many lakes, so little time. I would go to Basswood if I only had a day.

Many possibilities. Enter Mudro and head to Fourtown. Then portage into Horse and back down through Tin Can Mike, Sandpit and Mudro. Walleyes in Fourtown and Horse. Some decent lmb in Sandpit.

Hmmm, beauty, fishing, one day, Ely:

Lake One EP then west down the Kawishiwi River about 3 portages to a small waterfall.
Fall to Basswood.
Fall to Ella Hall.
In at Gabbro EP 33, out at South Kawishiwi EP32 then hike the 2 miles back to the car.
Gabbro to Turtle.

I would go paddle the Kawishiwi river before it is too toxic and your canoe melts beneath you.
